In basketball action this week, some old region rivals met, while others met for the first time in region play.

Starr's Mill faced the Fayette County Tigers Tuesday night and both the boys and girls team did well. The boys defeated Fayette County 67-57. Donny Lampen scored 22 points and pulled in 10 rebounds, while Bret Zondervan added 13 points and five assists.

"I think the team played in a tough intra-county rivalry," said Coach Tim Miller. "We gave them too many opportunities, but finished them off with some clutch free throws at the end."

The girls defeated the Lady Tigers 44-40 and got good play inside from Lauren Boyd and Alison Horne. Horne scored 15 points in the victory. Starr's Mill will host Stockbridge on Friday night and Eagle's Landing on Saturday.

McIntosh faced the Jonesboro Cardinals Tuesday. The boys performed well, winning 56-36. They continue to play excellent defense, as this was their third game in a row holding their opponent below 40 points. Josh Burr led the team in scoring with 16 points. The girls continued to struggle as they lost to the Lady Cardinals 38-32. McIntosh will play at Morrow on Friday night.

East Coweta's boys and girls faced two tough Riverdale squads. The boys fell to 2-2 on the season, as they lost 50-42. Adrian Parks and Raymond Pye each scored 10 points for the Indians. The Lady Indians fell to 3-4 on the season, losing to the Lady Raiders 50-29. Cherelle George led the team in scoring with 11 points. East Coweta travels to Evans on Friday night.

Sandy Crek's boys continue to play well. The Patriots improved to 6-2 with a 74-57 win over Woodward Academy. L.T. Lockett led the team in scoring with 20 points. The Patriots will host Northgate Saturday.
