Though football is on the minds of many Fayette County residents, the high school basketball season has begun.

Starr's Mill's boys played their first game of the season the other night at Eagle's Landing. The Panthers came out sluggish in the first half and found themselves trailing by 10 points at the half. They fired on all cylinders in the second half, though, capturing a 62-57 victory.

The team was led in scoring by Donny Lampen, who netted 30 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Brett Zondervan scored eight points and had four assists and two steals, while Micah Fletcher scored eight points and pulled in nine rebounds. Starr's Mill also got a good effort from Patrick Keys, Colin McGann and Gary Kubik.

The Panthers will take the court this Saturday when they take on their county rivals, the Sandy Creek Patriots.

In other scores from Tuesday night, Starr's Mill's girls defeated Eagle's Landing, 60-40, while Fayette County's Lady Tigers lost to Lovejoy, 64-48. The Landmark Christian boys and girls played at Holy innocents on Tuesday night and both lost. The Lady War Eagle's fell 50-44, while the boys team lost 67-54. Sandy Creek's boys team lost to Creekside, 62-49 and East Coweta's girls defeated Northgate, 66-28.

McIntosh's boys also started their season recently by participating in the Mt. Zion tournament. The Chiefs went 2-1 in the tournament, defeating South Cobb, 61-52 and Paideia, 70-60, and losing to Mt. Zion, Jonesboro, 67-60. Drew Hartley led McIntosh in scoring in the South Cobb game, scoring 20 points, while Josh Burr added 14 points. Burr was the leading scorer in the Chiefs' loss to Mt. Zion with 21 points, while Scott Prahl added 12 points. Burr also led the team in scoring in McIntosh's final game of the tournament, against Paideia, with 16 points. Hartley added 13 points in the win.

McIntosh has two big region games ahead of them this weekend as they will play at Newnan tonight and at Fayette County tomorrow night. Games will begin at 6 p.m.
