Fall roller hockey season complete The Peachtree City Hockey Association (PHA) has concluded the 2000 roller hockey season with its annual fall tournament. Twenty-two teams in three age divisions participated in the single-elimination, two-day event. In the Squirts Division (ages 7-9), the Penguins defeated the Canadians 7-3 behind the solid work in the net by goal tender Tony Audette. Statistics and scores are generally not kept in this division, placing the emphasis on teamwork, sportsmanship and skills development. The PeeWee Division (ages 10-12) provided the most entertainment and suspense over the weekend with several nail-biters and the most exciting championship game in league history. An overtime period and two shootout rounds were needed to determine a winner, with the Thrashers eventually edging the Capitals as darkness loomed Sunday evening. Gray Phelps (5 goals) and Jesy Phelps (4 goals) led the Thrashers' offensive attack, while Anthony Casini (7 goals) and Kevin Eckert (4 goals) provided the Capitals with accurate and timely shooting all weekend long. Honorable mention goes out to Steven Beardsell of the Hurricanes, who was the tournament's second leading scorer even though his team was eliminated in the second round. Kevin Williams of the Ducks was awarded the season scoring title for this division. In the Bantam Division (ages 13-15), the Panthers defeated the Red Wings behind the efforts of Clayton Quamme (7 goals) and Brian Witzel (5 goals). The Red Wings advanced to the final round through teamwork, accurate passing, and Chris Kemeza's 5 goals. JJ Grady's amazing performance earned him 12 goals on the weekend for the Oilers, who were eliminated in the second round. Greg Arbuckle of the Coyotes took the season division scoring title. PHA would like to thank the 22 local businesses who sponsor the league and the nearly 200 players and their parents for their continued support. PHA would also like to thank the children and parents on the waiting list for their patience and encourage them to arrive early for Spring 2001 registration which will be at the Kedron Field House Saturday, Jan. 13, at 9 a.m. This season is scheduled to begin play in March.
