Advent services planned at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran beginning Dec. 7 By SALLIE
SATTERTHWAITE
Saint Nick meets St. Ambrose? And Santa Lucia? St. Thomas? Sounds like Advent at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City. Intern Derek Olsen will lead mid-week services this year each Thursday before Christmas beginning Dec. 7. Olsen says the 7 p.m. services will be "uplifting, inspiring, worship opportunit[ies] in the middle of the week" and will lead worshippers in joyful reflection upon the mystery of Christmas. "The services will feature Marty Haugen's Holden Evening Prayer," Olsen said, describing the liturgy as "both faithful to our tradition and fun to sing." The congregation learned this liturgy during Lenten services last spring. Reflection on the Scriptures will be in drama form lifting up Christian virtues, Olsen said, including peace (St. Nick meets St. Ambrose), charity (St. Nick meets Santa Lucia), and faith (St. Nick meets St. Thomas). Several of the church's music groups will add to this preparation for Christmas. The community as well as the congregation is invited to participate, said Olsen, speaking on behalf of pastors the Revs. John Weber and Miriam Beecher. The church is at the intersection of Peachtree Parkway and Ga. Highway 54. For information, phone 770-487-8717. |
