Falcons perform well at Greater Atlanta Shootout

Recently, the Fayette Christian falcons basketball team participated in the Greater Atlanta Shootout at Forest Park Christian School.

All three of the Falcons teams, the junior varsity boys and the varsity girls and boys teams, played Tabernacle Christian in the first game and all three Falcons teams won.

Friday, the junior varsity team won 59-26. Jon Sellers led the team with 17 points and five steals, while David Erikson chipped in 14 points and seven rebounds. The varsity girls came from behind in their game to win 45-34. Jennifer Vinson led all scorers with 19 points and nine rebounds, while freshman Chasmine Blair added 12 points.

The varsity boys won 71-58. Luke Marden scored 14 points and James Harris added 12 points.

The championship games were Saturday. The junior varsity boys played Forrest Hills and won 50-38. Sellers scored 26 points and Keenau Parson chipped in 10 points. Sellers was named the MVP and Erikson was named to the all-tournament team.

In the varsity girls game, the Falcons struggled against Forest Park in the first half but came back valiantly, to finish down by six points, 30-24. Vinson scored seven points and pulled in nine rebounds in the loss. Both Vinson and Blair were named to the all-tournament team.

The varsity boys also faced Forest Park in the final game and won 71-53. The Falcons led for most of the game thanks to 32 points from Marden and 14 points from Harris. Harris was named to the tournament team and Marden was the MVP of the tournament.

This marked the first time in school history that all three teams brought home a trophy.
