Teens need to be
aware of dating, relationship issues
A recent event which impacted a young female visitor to the teen club involved an assault on her at her boyfriend's home in Peachtree City by a casual acquaintance. This crime occurred Oct. 21. The Peachtree City police were notified and a complaint filed during the following days. As a community service we have invited Ms. Kira Yancey, community outreach coordinator of the Southern Crescent Sexual Assault Center, Clayton County, to address members and interested residents of our community. During her discussion, she will explore some of the facts, including that rape is the fastest growing crime in the United States. [She also will talk about] date rape drugs and what to be aware of when out; sexual offense statues; abusive relationships and healthy relationships. Rape and assault can occur anywhere and anytime in our society and our young people need to be made aware of danger and precautions they can take to avoid becoming a victim of this violent crime.
