What happened to vision of PTC?

My family moved to Peachtree City a year ago because it is a wholesome, safe, family-oriented community. Crime is low, the sense of community is strong, and Peachtree City is just a great place to raise your kids. At least it used to be.

We work hard so our families can live in this kind of an environment. The schools are the best in the state, among the best in the country. Why? Because we have a community full of parents who care about their kids and who are involved actively in their lives. We have very little crime. Why? No mall, no major movie theater, no big box retail. There are very few legitimate reasons for people who are not residents of Peachtree City to come here. Excuse my candor, but I don't think I'm alone in my beliefs.

I've been reading week after week about the efforts of the mayor, the City Attorney and certain City Council and Planning Commission members to undermine the principles upon which this community was built. What happened to the vision? Why do we need to develop more land when we've worked so hard to maintain natural greenery? Why do we need to build more houses for more families when most of our schools have kids learning in trailers? Why are we even considering building more apartments in the city when apartments are correlated with higher crime rates? Why do we need to develop major retail areas when we've got Wal-Marts and Home Depots in both Fayetteville and Newnan?

We elected a mayor and a group of citizens who we believed would serve us and support the best interests of this community. Why are they working so hard to turn Peachtree City into yet another overpopulated, crime-ridden Atlanta suburb?

We cannot sit idly by while political back-scratching brings our community to its knees. The time has come for us to act. We elected these people to their respective offices, and we can recall them.

Thank you, Steve Brown, for all your hard work. I am formally extending a helping hand to you, and I strongly encourage the rest of the community to join me.
