PTC we've known
is gone
It is my understanding, having newly arrived in Peachtree City, that your city council has approved the building of a Home Depot and a Wal-Mart to be located on a heavily trafficked two-lane highway that spans a railroad track. This highway will not be improved to four lanes with left-hand turn lanes because funds will not be awarded because Georgia is not in compliance with the Clean Air Act. But the governing body has spit in the eye of this law and the will of the people and said building will proceed anyway. Oh, yes, I understand that your fearless leaders were afraid of a lawsuit that might result from Wal-Mart if they didn't approve the construction. Wal-Mart might even have refused to pay a promised $800,000 for road improvement! Gee, this just might pay for one right-hand turn lane! Needless to say, small businesses will be bankrupted with these two behemoths; no more the small shopping centers and groceries that you can reach with your golf carts. Gone is Peachtree City as you have come to know it. Instead we will have what Newnan has, a sea of greasy cement, no trees, desolation and ugliness. Something is rotten in Denmark. My suggestion? City Council and Mayor Lenox, get the heck out of Dodge. Ed Stonner Peachtree City stonner@sprintmail.com
