Mayor, council ignored citizens' wishes

I am absolutely dumbfounded that the Wal-Mart SuperCenter was passed by our mayor and two of our city council members. Do these people actually live in Peachtree City? Certainly not if they would allow big-box stores like Wal-Mart (and Home Depot) into our wonderful, unique city.

We moved to Peachtree City from Jonesboro a year and a half ago because of the beauty and charm of Peachtree City. We felt it was a perfect place to raise our family. The great schools and quality of life were exactly what we had been looking for.

I wrote an e-mail to the mayor and three of the city council members before the Wal-Mart vote begging them to do what the citizens of Peachtree City want Vote No on the Wal-Mart Supercenter. It will hurt our quality of life, impact our traffic (which is already horrendous), create a safety hazard on a two-lane road and hurt the small business owners.

Did they listen? No! I knew I didn't have to e-mail Dan Tennant because he is the only city council member with the best interest of Peachtree City at heart. Thank you, Dan!

I would much rather have our city fight a lawsuit from Wal-Mart for not allowing them to build here, than to just give in to pressure and allow it to happen.

Now where do we go from here? Is there any way we can stop this tragedy from happening? Let's voice our opposition!
