Keep those cards on big boxes coming in

Is it over? Yes, at least, that's what the Peachtree City Council wants you to believe, based on its 3-to-2 vote to permit the Wal-Mart "big box" at its Nov. 2 meeting.

Did you know that the "revised" proposal was not even submitted to all Council members until less than 30 minutes before the meeting? That of the crowd that attended the meeting, there was only one voice in favor? And that a Council member is quoted as saying, "There are many who want the big boxes"? And that the city's own traffic consultant (which was on record opposing the Wal-Mart application) was not even present to "explain" their change in view?

For those of you who received Steve Brown's letter of Oct. 26, with the enclosed postcard, send it in to Mr. Brown, if you have not already done so. If you did not receive his letter, or have misplaced it, simply send a card or letter to Mr. Brown stating simply, "I (or we) oppose permitting big boxes (like Wal-Mart) in Peachtree City." Your name would only be used in a petition.

The cynicism I hear about the Council and the comment, "Why bother, they don't listen?" just might be put to rest with your postcard or letter.
