Chamber names Spirit winners

Two Fayette County business were named the 2000 Spirit of Industry winnersby the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce: Hella Inc. and Photocircuits Corporation.

The awards are divided into two categories industries with fewer than 75 employees and those with 75 employees or more. This is the third year for the event.

In the under 75 employee category, Hella Inc. was announced as the recipient.

The firm has been in the Fayette County community for nine years and has become known around the world as a leader in automotive, aircraft, agricultural and marine lighting. Not only does the company support local organizations and charities, but it also gives employees paid time off to volunteer with them.

Named in the over 75 employee category was Photocircuits Corporation. The company has been a corporate citizen in Fayette County for 22 years and is a leading manufacturer of printed circuit boards.

The local plant has grown from the start-up of 50 employees to its current number of 1,215 employees. Photocircuits awards donations to many Fayette County charitable and service organizations, including high school scholarships.

"The best part of being chairman... is watching the accomplishments of our individual committees," said chamber Chairman Tate Godfrey. "Success in the committees usually boils down to motivated volunteers who want to achieve or exceed goals set at the beginning of the year.

"Today is a great example of that type of motivation... by the Existing Industry Committee. The Spirit of Industry Awards have become a wonderful success in Fayette County and a much-anticipated event."

He also thanked the industries that took the time to complete the detailed applications.

Besides the two named, they included Avery Dennison, Cooper Lighting, Florida Rock Industries - Tyrone Quarry, Hoshizaki America Inc., NCR, Panasonic (MCUSA), Reliant Building Products, TDK Components and TDK Electronics Corporation.
