McIntosh ends volleyball season with banquet

The McIntosh High School volleyball teams ended their seasons with a banquet at the Flat Creek Country Club.

The season was aided by the volunteer efforts of many parents in the booster club, athletic director Mark Mickleboro, and the coaches. The coaches offered gifts and awards to each player and each coach awarded engraved plaques to three outstanding individuals on their teams for excellence during the season.

Coach Vanessa Futon of the freshmen team awarded Libby Yingling the Most Improved Player Award, Casy Martin received the Coach's Award and Jessica Wiedemeyer was named the Most Valuable Freshman Player.

Junior varsity Coach Brenda Cannington awarded Laura Stewart the Most Improved Player Award, while the Coach's Award went to Marci Nessing and the Most Valuable Player Award for the 2000 JV season was awarded to Alice Lowery.

For the varsity team, Coach Taasha Moore named Sarah Rosetti as Most Improved Player and gave the Coach's Award to Allie Cheatham. Megan Bartels was unanimously elected Most Valuable Player by her teammates. Bartels, a junior, was also voted by area coaches as the Area 4-AAAAA West Most Valuable Player 2000.

The 2000 All Area Team also was announced during the banquet. The team includes senior Kathryn Murphy from McIntosh, along with other area seniors Christine Pritchett and Megan Byrd from Fayette County High School and Danielle Cagle, Terri Cobb and Lauren Boyd from Starr's Mill High School.

The Lady Chiefs look forward to another successful season next year with many players returnig. They will miss their graduating seniors Murphy, Kara Nessing, Kristi Oates, Stacey Quinn and Staci Stoller.
