Work steadily continues on The Avenue at Peachtree City, the largest retail project approved by the city in the past five years.

The 175,000-square-foot center is projected to open in March of next year near the intersection of Ga. highways 54 and 74.

Cousins Properties, which is the leasing agent for The Avenue at Peachtree City, has announced several newly signed tenants that have executed leases to locate there.

The Athlete's Foot will occupy 4,000 square feet, while a Starbucks coffee store will be located in a 2,000-square-foot space. Joining those new tenants will be the Thomas Kinkade Painter of Light Gallery, in a 900-square-foot store.

Previously, Cousins Properties announced that a Gap clothing store and Harry's in a Hurry gourmet grocery store would be the anchor tenants, with both sized at over 10,000 square feet. Other tenants already signed on include Bath and Body Works, Victoria's Secret, Banana Republic, Children's Place, Claire's Boutique, Atlanta Bread Company, Ritz Camera, Yankee Candle, and Children's Place, which is a clothing store for children.

Lisa Simmons of Cousins Properties said there are 10 more leases waiting to be signed by prospective occupants and 16 or 17 other leases are in various stages of negotiations.

"In the next 60 days we expect more names to release," Simmons said.

The Avenue might not remain the largest retail development in that area of the city for long, however, as Wal-Mart plans to locate a Supercenter further west on Hwy. 54 that would encompass 204,000 square feet. That project has not received final approval from the city, however.

The largest commercial center in Peachtree City currently is the Braelinn Village retail center, at over 200,000 square feet in size. That includes the anchor stores there of Kroger, K-mart and Blockbuster Video.
