Oak Grove Elementary School principal Debbie Wheat and assistant principal John Bouchell dealt with calls from concerned parents Wednesday, following the arrest of a 22-year old man Monday at Rock Spray Park located near the school.

The man told police he intended to abduct a child and is now being held at the Fayette County Jail charged with attempted kidnapping and other charges. The charges stem from an incident Sunday involving two 10-year old boys.

In a letter sent home with all students Wednesday, the school administrators stated that after speaking with Peachtree City Police, they believed that the incident was being handled with children's safety as the top priority.

They also noted that no Oak Grove students were involved in the weekend episode, the suspect was never on the Oak Grove campus, nor has the school been involved in the arrest or the related incident. The suspect does not reside in the Oak Grove school district.

"Please know that we take all safety issues seriously at Oak Grove Elementary School. This incident could have had a most unhappy resolution if not for the watchfulness of the Peachtree City Police and the strict guidelines we set for access to our students, building and campus," the principals wrote.

"This incident is a great reminder that the inconvenience of signing in/out of our building, wearing visitor's badges, following all arrival and dismissal procedures and using only our front doors for school access are a small price to pay for your child's safety."
