November has arrived and with it comes a plethora of theatrical events, occurring in and around Fayette County.

Starting tomorrow night at Baci Italian Cuisine in Fayetteville is Paul Massey's "Stories The Ladies Told." The story revolves around two sisters who love the same man.

Dessert and drinks will be served and admission is $10. Performances Thursday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 5 will be at 9 p.m., while Friday and Saturday performances will be at 10:30 p.m.

Also starting on Thursday is the Atlanta Lyric Theatre's (formerly Savoyards Musical Theatre) production of "Mame." The story is about a young boy who is looked after by his eccentric aunt. This production will feature Fayette County resident, Evan Barron, as Young Patrick. The show will run at the Robert Ferst Center For The Performing Arts at Georgia Tech University from Nov. 2-5. Tickets are $25-$35 and $15 for students. Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Call 404-894-9600 to purchase tickets or obtain more information.

Next week, Newnan Community Theatre gets in on the act with its Xtras! production of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet." Instead of taking on the entire script, the teens have studied selected scenes along with such issues as understanding the language, handling the verse, Renaissance dance, etc. Each scene has been assigned a team that has devised its own rehearsal schedule and production goals.

Thus, the performance won't be a straight-through production of "Romeo & Juliet," but rather a display of what the teens have learned about Shakespeare within this particular play.

Xtras! director Laurel Alford said that at this point the show has "a cast of thousands."

The tale of two star crossed lovers will be presented at 8 p.m. Nov. 10, 11, 17 and 18 and at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 12.

Beginning Wednesday, Nov. 15 at the Rialto Center for the Performing Arts in Atlanta is Theatrical Outfit's production of "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe." The show will run Nov. 15-19 and presents the story through the author's word rather than through action on the stage.

All evening performances begin at 7:30 and Saturday and Sunday's matinees are at 2:30. Tickets range from $12-40. Call 404-577-5257.

The Alliance Children's Theatre Company in Atlanta will present "The Book of Ruth" Saturdays and Sundays Nov. 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26; Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec. 3. The play is about a Jewish girl named Ruth, who receives cooking lessons from her grandmother Hannah while they are held in the Nazi transit camp of Terezin during the Holocaust. Ruth befriends a boy named David and they attempt to create a secret world apart from their daily chores to overcome the suffering they see every day.

The play is appropriate for audiences 9 and up. Tickets are $10 for children and $12.50 for adults and may be purchased at the Woodruff Arts Center Box Office or by calling 404-733-4690.

Also in November, Southside Theatre Guild in Fairburn will present "See How They Run." When a nosy neighbor spies the vicar's wife (a former American actress) and an old colleague reenacting one of their old love scenes, rumors fly and complications multiply. Add to the lineup four men in clergymen's suits, presenting the problem of who's who. Disguised as one is an escaped prisoner, and another a visiting bishop, who is aghast at the entire goings on. So swift is the action, so involved the situation, so rib-tickling the plot, that at its finish you will be exhausted from laughter as if you too had run a foot race.

The play will be presented Nov. 16, 17, 18, 24, 25, 26 (2 p.m.), 30 and Dec. 1 and 2. Performances are Thursday through Saturday and are at 8 p.m. and admission is $10 for adults and $8 for students. Call 770-969-0956 for reservations.

Of course it wouldn't be November and the beginning of the holiday season without a production of "The Nutcracker." Festival Ballet Company will present the classic tale at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center Nov. 25 and 26 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for students and children. With each purchase of an adult ticket to Sunday's performance, a complimentary children's ticket will be awarded. Call 770-507-2775 for information or tickets.
