Upcoming coffeehouse offers jazz and celtic music

Offshoot Productions has announced that the Saturday, Nov. 4 Stars on the Southern Crescent coffeehouse will feature Emerald Rose, a Celtic band from north Georgia.

Jennifer Perry and her musicians, who have previously performed jazz, swing, torch and bebop at Stars , have appeared at Atlanta area venues as diverse as the Freight Room, the Red Light Cafe, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival, the Marriott Lenox, the Country Club of Roswell, the Gwinnett History Museum Coffeehouse, and Underground Atlanta, where they opened for Blood, Sweat & Tears. Perry recently received a call from the Recording Academy that their song, "Everybody's Got to Swing," has been nominated for a Grammy. She says that "Being the first time, I'm not holding my breath to make the finals, but it's still exciting."

The other group on the coffee house bill, the popular Emerald Rose from north Georgia is rapidly gaining a following for its Celtic music. "Emerald Rose is an incredible band," said Offshoot artistic director Susan M. Steadman, Ph.D. "Their CD offers tremendous variety and range, and their reputation is first-class." The group is appearing at Stars for the first time.

The coffeehouse, which successfully initiated its 2000-2001 season Sept. 23, is now situated at the LaFayette Educational Center, 205 LaFayette Avenue, just northwest of the Courthouse Square.

Doors open at 7:45 p.m., and the show begins at 8:15.

General admission is $7 ($5 for senior citizens and children under 12).

Patrons who bring their mugs from home are eligible for discount.
