The Landmark Christian School varsity football team has had its share of struggles this season, but the team's future is certainly bright.

The war eagles will make the playoffs after two more weeks and they will get an infusion of young talent over the next few years.

The talent will come from the Landmark freshman team that went undefeated (7-0) during this season. Five of the freshmen's seven games were against other schools' junior varsity teams and the results were pretty astounding.

The war eagles out-scored their opponents 222-68 this season. They rushed for 1,652 yards and 23 touchdowns, while throwing for 392 yards and seven touchdowns. Landmark recorded two shutouts this year, against Wesleyan and Temple, and scored in the double digits in every game except their first one.

The offense was led by Dylan Haynes, who rushed for 663 yards on 114 carries in six games, and by Peachtree City resident Eric Worrell, who rushed for 452 yards on 69 carries and caught 12 passes for 290 yards. Worrell also had a big year on defense and special teams. He led the team in tackles, had seven interceptions and returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.

Alex Mortenson was the quarterback for the war eagles and looked impressive as well. He went 17 for 32 for 392 yards, threw for seven touchdowns and was intercepted only once. Mortenson finished the season with an efficiency rating of 251.5.

There was also outstanding play on the offensive line from Fayetteville resident Ian Williams. In fact, Williams played so well he is now on the varsity team. Another Fayetteville resident, Kurt Swygert, had a big year on the defensive line, recording five sacks and causing six fumbles.

The Landmark freshman team is looking forward to playing a varsity schedule in the future and competing for a state championship in years to come.
