Emory closing clinic

The Emory Clinic will discontinue operations at its Fayetteville Health Center on Nov. 30. The announcement was made today by Penny Castellano, MD, Chief Medical Officer for Primary Care at The Emory Clinic.

The decision to close The Emory Clinic at Fayetteville comes after careful evaluation of The Emory Clinic's 13 health centers and related strategic planning resulting in Emory's determination to concentrate resources in the remaining facilities.

"This was a difficult decision to make, but we believe that it is the right decision," said Dr. Castellano. "While patient care at the Fayetteville facility was of the highest quality, recent re-evaluation of the level of growth determined that it had not met the overall practice goals set by the Clinic six years ago. The Emory Clinic's top priority is to guarantee that patients are the primary focus of our efforts, and concentrating our resources at the reaming facilities will ensure this commitment."

Emory has contacted patients in the Fayetteville area to inform them of its decision to close the center.

All physicians and staff currently employed at the Fayetteville center are in the process of identifying opportunities within the Emory Clinic, and all are guaranteed placement within Emory.

"The combined experience and knowledge of our physicians and staff at Fayetteville is invaluable, and we look forward to placing them within our other centers," said Dr. Castellano.

In addition, The Emory Clinic will maintain a non-medical presence in Fayetteville with the expansion of a telephone call center and billing system. Six employees currently staff these functions. The plan is to expand this operation to more than 20 individuals in 2001.
