Gold's Gym moving into old Wal-Mart

J.D. Holmes, owner of two Gold's Gyms in Peachtree City, announced today that he is bringing a world-class, state-of-the-art family health club to Fayetteville.

Slated to open in late January or early February, Gold's Gym of Fayetteville will occupy 32,000 square feet of the space formerly occupied by Wal-Mart next to the new Hobby Lobby.

Patterned after his two highly successful clubs in Peachtree City, the new facility will have racquetball courts, outdoor basketball courts, and an outside playground for children.

Additionally, the new gym will have a large women-only workout salon and sizeable group exercise rooms as well as the latest in exercise and cardiovascular equipment. Spacious, modern locker rooms, a day spa, rehab center and smoothie bar will round out the amenities to be offered.

"The Fayetteville area is underserved by quality health clubs," said Holmes, who lives in Fayetteville. "We will introduce the latest in exercise technology with a primary focus on the family. Our 'claim to fame' since

1989 has always been how we treat our members. We hire friendly people, who care about people. Any gym can buy new equipment, it's the staff that makes the difference."

In 1999, and again in 2000, the two Gold's Gyms in Peachtree City were voted the Best Fitness Centers in Fayette and Coweta Counties by the readers of the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Gold's Gym International acclaimed them as the Best Conversion Gyms in 1999 and last year, the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce recognized Gold's Gym of Peachtree City West as Small Business of the Year in 1999.

Also in 1999, Wal-Mart Corporation presented J.D. and Varner Holmes the Sam Walton Business Leader Award for excellence in business.

Gold's Gym, the largest international health club chain, has over 550 locations throughout the world. Members of Gold's Gym have added benefit of being able to work out at any of the worldwide locations during their travels.
