Great games on the gridiron this week

The high school football season is winding down and some teams are playing for postseason positions. The games tonight promise a lot of intensity and great football action.

Starr's Mill (8-0) is currently ranked ninth in AAAAA. They clinched the top spot in Division A of 4-AAAAA last week and will take on the McIntosh Chiefs (1-6). Starr's Mill needs to stick to its game plan and not overlook the Chiefs, while McIntosh needs to continue making progress and look for positive signs against what is posibly the best team in the region.

East Coweta (7-0) is ranked 10th in AAAAA and is on the top of Division B of 4-AAAAA. They will host the Henry County Warhawks (2-6) and would like to keep their building momentm progressing. The Indians look better from week to week and hope to enter the playoffs as one of their strongest squads in recent history.

Northgate (6-1) has yet another big game ahead of them this week as they travel to Barnesville to meet the Lamar County Trojans (4-3). Northgate hopes to get a strong game from their high powered offense and needs their defense to play as well as they did last week, in order to slow the Trojans explosive offense down.

Sandy Creek (5-2) is tied for second behind Creekside in 4-AAAA. The Patriots will travel to meet the Woodward Academy War Eagles (2-5) but will have two key injuries nagging them. Brooks Martin is out for the season and J.R. Lemon will be out for close to three weeks with a broken wrist. The team will need to continue to play hard and close out the season strong.

The Fayette County Tigers (1-7) host the North Clayton Eagles (1-6). It is one of their last two games of the season and both games are at home. The Tigers need to stay focused on offense and to get another good performance from quarterback Nathaniel Enloe and receiver T.J. Brandenburg. The defense also needs to step up to stop the North Clayton quarterback D.J. Shockley.

Landmark Christian (1-6) begins the region schedule this week by hosting Bowdon (4-3). The War Eagles have shown signs of improvement from week to week and now have to put it all together. They were idle last week, giving their nagging injuries a chance to heal. Expect Landmark to come out and play some aggressive football as they search for their second win of the season and some momentum.
