Halloween is a week from last night, but there are dozens of Halloween-themed activities for you and your family to enjoy.

The fun starts tomorrow when the Peachtree City Recreation Department will offer the first ever Costume Caper at 6:30 p.m. Participants create their own costumes and take part in a costume contest. The fee is $5 per person and $10 for a family. For information, call 770-487-7657.

The 18th annual pumpkin decorating contest also will be tonight at the Coweta County Fairgrounds at 7 p.m. Entrants can carve, paint and decorate pumpkins and enter several different categories. Call 770-254-2620.

The city of Fayetteville will host its annual Pumpkin Walk Friday, Oct. 27. The children from local schools and church groups will dress in costume and line up their decorated pumpkins. The event begins at 9 a.m. and the pumpkins will be outside all evening. Trick or Treat on Main Street also will be Friday, with festivities beginning at 4 p.m. and lasting until 6 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 28, the Tyrone Recreation Department will host A Child's Adventure at Shamrock Park, open to children 2-11 and running 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a costume contest and Halloween-themed activity stations for the kids to enjoy. For the older children and young at heart, the Recreation Department will host Terror Around Shamrock Lake at the Tyrone Recreation Center at 7 p.m. for ages 12 to adult. The fee for the spooky evening is $3 and a canned good.

The Cochran Mill Nature Center in south Fulton County also will host Halloween festivities Saturday with its eighth annual Halloween Hayride and Family Festival. There will be arts and crafts, activities, games, a costume contest, live animals, a hot dog dinner and a haunted surprise. Festivities last from 6-9 p.m. and admission is $3 for members and $4 for nonmembers. Cost of the dinner is $3. Call 770-306-0914.

Monday, Oct. 30, the Fayette Town Center Kroger will have a costume contest for three age groups. Kids 0-3 years old will participate at 6:30, followed by kids 4-7 at 7 p.m. and ages 8-11 at 7:30 p.m. There will be treats for the children, prizes for the best costumes and employees decked out in costumes as well.

Also Monday, the MOMS Club of Fayetteville invites all stay at home and part-time working moms to its open house/Halloween activities at McCurry Park on McDonough Road, from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants are asked to bring pumpkins for their children to carve or paint.

All Hallow's Eve, Oct. 31, Tyrone will have its Pumpkin Walk from 9:15 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Town Hall. Children from area elementary schools and church preschools bring their carved or painted pumpkins to be judged. Trick or treat at local businesses throughout Tyrone will be from 3-5 p.m. and is open to children up to 11 years old.

Trick or treat starts in all the neighborhoods Oct. 31 as soon as it gets dark and usually stops a little after 8 p.m. There are plenty of things to do in the coming days to celebrate this fun time of year. Just remember to be safe.
