Race was a Classic day for runners
The 19th annual Peachtree City Classic Road Race, sponsored by the Peachtree City Running Club, had another successful year. Over 3,000 runners applied for the three separate races. The weather cooperated with a beautiful morning Oct. 14 for the runners and the Peachtree City police and EMTs were on hand to ensure the runners' safety. In addition, over 300 club and community volunteers aided in the race. Each finisher received an embroidered windshirt for their efforts. Publix was also on hand to give the runners fresh fruit and numerous other sponsors awarded door prizes and other goodies. The RRCA National Championship 15K was won by male runner Edmund Hickey of Madison, WI with a time of 53:29. Doug Dobler of Athens and Tom Minor of Fortson finished second and third. The fastest female in the 15K was Connie Robertson of Hapeville with a time of 59:39. Nancy Stewart and Lynn Pinyard came in second and third. In the Masters category of the 15K, Gregory Rucker of Forston won with a time of 55:38, while Barry Halligan and Neal Stubblefield placed second and third. In the female 15K Masters division, Sherri Hintz of Atlanta won with a time of 1:04, while Paula May of Peachtree City took second place. Deborah Price-Alexander placed third. In the Men's 5K race, the winning time of 16:44 was posted by Ben Brantley, a 15-year-old student at McIntosh High School and member of the boys cross-country team. Second place was awarded to Joey Knight and third place went to Don Livingston. In the Men's Masters 5K race, the winner was Steve Janney with a time of 17:13. Second place was awarded to David Kroupa of Coral Springs, Fla. and third place was awarded to Peter Heidbreder of Dunwoody. The Woman's 5K race was won by Donna Lee of Fayetteville, who posted a time of 19:45. Jenna Downey placed second and third place went to Donna Troxel. In the Women's Masters 5K, the winner was Trenice Mullis of Tucker with a time of 20:56. Cherolynn Weaver was second and Sandy Adams was third.
