The Silver Buddy - Afriend during winter Fishing with Chris Foster If youare a die-hard bass fisherman and brave enough to fish in the colder monhts, then you need to fish with a buddy, a "Silver Buddy." The Silver Buddy I'm talking about is a thin-metal vibrating bait that gives off a lot of flash, similar to a bait-fish. This lure can be your ace lure in the winter months. The 1/2-ounce silver and the 3/4-ounce silver colored models will get down to the bass fast, no matter what depth you are fishing. But, it is most effective in a depth range between 12 and 30 feet. Prime places to use the Silver Buddy is tapering flats with a rocky bottom that drops off sharply into main river channels. To use the lure properly, you must first acquire the proper equipment. For the best control of the lure, i use and recommend a bait cast reel spooled with an eight to 12 pound line on a six to six and one half foot medium heavy action bait cast rod. Now, to use the Silver Buddy correctly, first cast out the lure and let it sink all the way to the bottom. Secondly, raise your rod tip up to an 11 o'clock position and moderately lift your rod upward (you should feel the lure's vibrations through your rod tip). Thirdly, let the buddy sink back to the bottom ona tight line and retrieve the slack and begin the same presentation again. As you are fishing the lure on the rock bottom, the noise that the bait makes when it hits the rock bottom is a signal call to the bass that lunch is served. Try this lure and you'll catch a lot more winter bass. Good fishing Chris Foster
