Starr's Mill celebrates homecoming, other teams travel By
MICHAEL BOYLAN The World Series starts tomorrow in New York City and baseball is on a lot of people's minds, but tonight is a night for high school football. Starr's Mill (7-0) celebrates its first homecoming at Panther Stadium with a game against the Morrow Mustangs (2-4). The Panthers played with a lot of focus last week against the Stockbridge Tigers. They need to stay focused and get one step closer to an undefeated season. East Coweta (6-0) travels to take on Stockbridge (1-5) Friday night and should not have a very hard time. The Indians continue to gel together and are playing incredibly well. This should not be a contest, but East Coweta must not overlook the Tigers and stick to their game plan. Northgate (5-1) comes off a bye week to take on another 5-1 team, the Greenville Patriots. The Vikings' explosive offense and defense most certainly benefitted from a week of rest. Now they need to make sure they are up for this very important regional road game. Sandy Creek (4-2) faced Heritage last week and shut them out, 28-0. The game was important for the Patriots because both the offense and defense did their jobs, keeping their opponent off the board and putting up a lot of points. If the Patriots can do it again this week, they should win when they take on the Westlake Lions (3-4) at Westlake. Fayette County (1-6) lost a heartbreaker to Jonesboro last week in their homecoming game. This week they travel to Tara Stadium in Jonesboro to take on the Forest Park Panthers (5-1). The Tigers may have a hard time getting a win against Forest Park but their two remaining games after this week will be easier. Fayette County needs to play a full four quarters of good football and stick to their game plan. If they do, they will see positive results in the closing weeks of their season. McIntosh (1-5) hosted Riverdale last week and lost 42-0. They travel to take on the Mt. Zion, Jonesboro Bulldogs (5-2) on Friday at Twelve Oaks Stadium in Hampton and hope to perform a little better. This week's game and next week's game against Starr's Mill will be big tests for the Chiefs and will let them know how far they have come this season. The closing weeks of the season pit the Chiefs against Stockbridge and North Clayton. If they play well against the tough squads, the last two weeks will be much easier. Landmark Christian (1-6) has a bye week this week before beginning their region schedule against Bowdon on Oct. 27. The War Eagles really need this week off. They have a bunch of injuries to get over and they have to be tired right now. They are playing better from week to week and this is the part of the season that really counts. Look for the War Eagles to come out fierce next Friday and try to finish the season strong. |
