Paddlers take annual fall trip this weekend
The annual fall mountain weekend for the Peachtree City Paddlers is set for Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 21 and 22 at the cabin of Jimmy and Margo Booth near Blue Ridge, Ga. Club members are invited to camp there (limited sleeping facilites are available inside on a first request basis) and spend the weekend enjoying the North Georgia mountains. For those who would prefer a little more privacy, rental cabins, campgrounds and camping spots are available nearby. A river trip will be scheduled Saturday on the Toccoa River, a class one to two river. If you don't have your own boat, some boats may be available for loan from club members and, if needed, additional boats can be rented from Mountaintown Outdoor Expeditions in nearby Ellijay. A trip on the Ocoee River is scheduled for Sunday. This is a class four river for serious paddlers. There may be others who wish to re-run the Toccoa or do another river in the area and plans will be made when the group gets together. Paddlers and family members will have many other options available if interested. Hiking, antique shopping and craft fairs, sightseeing, biking and fishing are just the beginning of the possibilities. The Rich Mountain Trail is a mountain biking trail that is only a few miles from the cabin. The trip coordinator and reservationist is Margo Booth. Call her at 770-487-8084 by Thursday, Oct. 19 if you plan to join the group. The cabin number is 770-838-4521. The Peachtree City Paddlers will have their annual meeting Sunday, Nov. 12 at the Stoneybrook Clubhouse. The meeting will be a covered dish supper and will begin at 6 p.m. Call John Dennis at 770-487-5888 by Nov. 10 if you plan to attend and if you will require child care during the meeting. |
