Callaway Gardens readies new scene for Fantasy Light Show

Callaway Gardens' Fantasy In Lights will introduce a new scene Enchanted Rainbow Forest as it prepares to open in November.

In the scene, pixies sprinkle magic dust over the landscape, making green plants sprout from the ground, and colorful buds bloom and become full-grown flowers representing each season. Overhead, brilliant arches of light spread from side to side in an array of colors to complement the 12 specimens of native Southeastern flowers represented.

The construction of the Virginia Hand Callaway Discovery Center created an additional 2,000 feet of Scenic Drive, making space for this new scene. Enchanted Rainbow Forest is between the Firefly Cove scene and the entrance to the Callaway Discovery Center.

Beginning Nov. 17 and open nightly through Dec. 27, this holiday tradition of the South, chosen as a Top 20 Event by the Southeast Tourism Society, includes glimmering roadside scenes from years past including Santa's Workshop, The March of the Toy Soldiers, Twin Trees, Twelve Days of Christmas, Snowflake Valley and more.

The Callaway Christmas Village, alive with merriment and fun activities for all ages, includes crafters demonstrating their skills, live entertainment, educational exhibits, gift booths. Holiday decor and costumed characters greet visitors in this magical world. Santa and Mrs. Claus are on hand to listen to every child's Christmas wish.

Guests may enjoy the fare at any of several restaurants. For lighter appetites, the Beach Pavilion is open nightly. On a space-available basis, guests also may enjoy a traditional holiday meal in the Fantasy Cafe in the Callaway Christmas Village. For restaurant reservations and operating hours phone 706-663-2281, extension 5274.

Advanced tickets may be purchased beginning Oct. 30. Prices Monday through Thursday (except holidays) are $10/adult and $5/child (6-12) and $12/adult and $6/child (6-12) Friday through Sunday and holidays. Children 5 and under are free but require a "free child" ticket. Tax is additional.

Callaway Gardens is in Pine Mountain, Ga., 60 minutes southwest of Atlanta and 30 minutes north of Columbus. The entrance to Fantasy In Lights is on U. S. Highway 27.
