McIntosh brings tale of Robin Hood to the stage

The tale of Robin Hood is very well known. He and his band of Merry Men patrolled Sherwood Forest, robbing from the rich and giving to the poor.

Now, McIntosh High School presents its production of the classic tale as its entry into the Region One Act Competition.

Though the McIntosh production is presented in two acts, the theater group will submit part of the show into the region competition, which will be Nov. 4 at Sams Auditorium in Fayetteville.

The play stays relatively true to the tale. The King is away and Prince John is ruling England poorly. His thugs are terrorizing the people of England, taxing them incessantly. Prince John's main thug, the Sheriff of Nottingham, jails people who do not pay and is hunting Robin Hood and his band of vigilantes.

Robin Hood meets Maide Marian and falls in love with her. In the end, Robin gets the girl, thwarts his enemies and protects the kingdom for the King's return.

One of the main differences in McIntosh's production is that Maide Marian is a swordswoman. In fact, the swashbuckling in McIntosh's production will be quite good as it was choreographed by Drew Reeves, who choreographs the action for the Shakespeare Tavern in Atlanta. The play also gets a boost in the players' costumes, as their costume designer has designed costumes for the Renaissance Festival.

"Robin Hood" is co-directed by Rebecca Packard and Stephen Buckner and promises fun for the whole family.

The show will be presented Oct. 25-28 in the Black Box Theatre at Mcintosh High School. The Wednesday and Thursday performances will be presented at 6:30 p.m. while the Friday and Saturday performances will be at 7 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for students.
