Fayette County well represented at Senoia Speedway Tyrone's Scott Griffin threaded the needle between two lapped cars to take the lead with 31 laps remaining in the Alan Vigil Southlake Ford 50 feature. Griffin, who drives a Ford Taurus sponsored by R&S Hauling/Steve Banks Enterprises, followed another Tyrone racer, Wayne Hansard, for the first 18 circuits around the 3/8-mile high-bank oval until they came up on two slower cars. Hansard committed to going high around the two while Griffin jumped at the opportunity to go between them as a gap opened up. Last week's winner, Marc Mitchell, finished second from his eighth place starting position after several intense laps and finally pushing Wayne Hansard out of the way on lap 41 for the position. Jackson's B.J. Holley took advantage of the door-to-door battle between Mitchell and Hansard, catching Hansard high in a corner and ducking low under him for a third place finish. Hansard, who finished fourth, gained his first Budweiser Pole Award with a 13.896 lap. Jimmy Henderson passed second place finisher Andy Cash with 21 laps remaining in the Sportsman feature Saturday night for his second win of the season. Finishing third was Darin Cronan, followed closely by Senoia's Mark Lore in fourth with Charles White finishing fifth. Mark Lore led from start to finish in the street stocks division for his fifth win of the season with Fayetteville's Mike Steffens finishing second followed by Jason Turner from Griffin. Rounding out the top five were Larry Pierce in fourth and Mike Crowley in fifth. Gay, Ga.'s Troy French took control of the Mini Stock feature just four laps into it for his 12th recorded win of the season. Jonesboro's Cary Hamilton finished a distant second to French with Senoia's Collin Roetman banging his way around Mike Chambers for third. Chambers held on to finsh fourth with Stanley Adams rounding out the top five. It only took two laps for Peachtree City's Reed Sorenson to take the lead for the win in the Pro/Semi Pro Legends feature Saturday night at Senoia Speedway. Sorenson, who will jump to Late Models next season, has won four races this season out of eight starts at Senoia Speedway. Finishing second was Marc Mitchell who stayed glued to Sorenson's rear bumper from lap 18 for the remainder of the race. In third was Johnny East, followed by Pete Boyer, with Guy Austin in fifth. McDonough's Brandon Brilliant bullied his way back into the lead in the Young Lyons race with 15 laps remaining for his fifth win of the 2000 racing season. Bobby East dodged several spinning cars to finish second. Scott Tinsley's third place finish came hard-earned as he, Emily Cone and fifth place finisher Bubba Pollard had to work their way back through the field while Jimmy Filton finished fourth. Sharpsburg's Matt Peeples skunked the field for the second week in a row as he led all 15 laps of the Bandeleros feature for his second win of the season. Newcomer Franklin Futrell was Peeples' only challenger after the restart but could not close the deal, finishing second. Athens' driver John Wes Townlly was third with Trent Mayo fourth and Adam Gray fifth. |
