Lady Tigers enter region tourney as top seed

The Fayette County high School lady tigers volleyball team added four more wins last week, ending regular season play with a 20-2 record. and a top seed for the region tournament.

The first game was against Starr's Mill and the Tigers won, 15-11 and 15-12. The first game was back and forth, but good serves from Crystal deCotret brought the score to 14-11. Megan Byrd produced an ace at the end of the game to seal te win for the Lady Tigers.

In the second game, Fayette County jumped out to a 9-4 lead, before Lauren Boyd boosted the Panthers, closing the gap to 13-12. Kristin French had several great serves to give the Lady Tigers the win.

Fayette County then took on Newnan and won, 15-2, 15-7. Ashley Stool and Christine Pritchett had some deadly kills in the first game, while Sandra Finley and deCotret played great defense in the second game.

The final two games of the season were against Northgate and Stockbridge. Fayette County beat Northgate, 15-1, 15-10 thanks in part to great sets from Valerie Warr and Katie Langas. The Lady tigers then beat Stockbridge, 15-5, 15-6.

The region tournament begins on Thursday at Starr's Mill High School. The lady Tigers are the number one seed, but McIntosh and Starr's Mill are also strong contenders for the region championship.
