On Bush-Gore ...
With so much television and newspaper reports about how much the Clinton-Gore presidency has brought us, I would like to clear up a few misconceptions. The late Senator Paul Coverdell stated it very clearly in his Republican Five-Year Progress Report. First, the American people elected Republican majorities in both the House and Senate in 1995. Since that time the Republican House and Senate have balanced the budget for the first time since 1969. Republicans have enacted a $500-per child tax credit, reduced the capital gains tax rate from 28 to 20 percent, and created individual retirement accounts (Roth IRAS). In 1999, Republicans in Congress helped more than 6 million Americans on welfare find jobs by passing comprehensive welfare reform, and increased military strength, pay and provided greater retirement choices for military families; set aside the Social Security Trust Fund so that funds would only be spent on Social Security, and returned education decision making power to parents. Nov. 7, voters can decide to continue securing America's future by voting the straight Republican ticket. Please get out to vote. Your future depends on it. Grace Caldwell Fayette
