The Sandy Creek varsity softball team competed in the Shaw Invitational recently and won runner-up in the gold medal round. They improved their record to 12-9 and faced some stiff competition.

Their first game was against Harris County and the Lady Patriots won 5-0. They produced eight hits, with Carrie Rountree and Jessica DeMooney each getting two hits in the win. Terri Manthey was the winning pitcher.

The next game pitted Sandy Creek against Marietta. This game was a little closer but thanks to two RBI from Sydney Sneed and one from DeMooney, the Lady Patriots were again victorious, this time 3-2. Beth Jenkins was the winning pitcher.

The next day started with Sandy Creek defeating Lowndes County 7-5. Jenkins produced two RBI in the win, as did Meredith Lovelace. Manthey was the winning pitcher, improving her record to 6-2.

The Lady Patriots ran out of steam in their next game, losing to South Gwinnett 5-3. Sandy Creek only got three hits in the loss. Their last game on Saturday was against Cherokee and Sandy Creek got back on track, winning 3-0. Krystal McBride and DeMooney each had two hits in the win.

The Lady Patriots then faced Westlake in two games and the offense clicked on all cylinders. Jenkins took the mound and pitched a perfect game, allowing no hits and striking out eight of the nine batters faced. She also produced five RBI to help her cause. Chrissy Lunsford drove in three runs, as did Lovelace, while Manthey and McBride each drove in two.

The offense didn't stop in the second game either as the Lady Patriots 11-1. Jenkins took the mound again and threw a no-hitter, striking out 13 and walking three. Jessica Holcomb went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in three runs.

The Lady Patriots are hoping to maintain momentum as they prepare for the upcoming area tournament.
