McIntosh High School's varsity volleyball team started off strong on its home court last week against cross-town rival Starr's Mill and never let up, stinging Starr's Mill with a 15-1 victory in game one.

Starr's Mill recovered to put up a fight in game two, but McIntosh put them away in only two games 15-11 in the second.

Game one revolved around strong serving, especially on the part of seniors Stacey Quinn and Kristi Oates. Junior Megan Bartels was team leader in both receiving and net play, in both blocks and kills, to help hold the Lady Panthers to just one point in the first game. Good setting was shared by senior Kathryn Murphy and junior Allison Cheatham.

Stacey Quinn again was super-server in the second game, running eight straight points for her Lady Chiefs. Oates and Bartels combined strong attacks and kills in the second game and Bartels placed some opportune blocks to stop a Starr's Mill surge. Tara Hamilton hit two great kills with the score close near the end of the second game to bring McIntosh out on top.

For the match, Kristi Oates, Megan Bartels and Tara Hamilton teamed together with strong attacks and kills, Bartels with four attacks and four kills, Oates with four and three and Hamilton with three and two. The Oates and Bartels duo had three blocks apiece.

Stacey Quinn was lights-out serving for the night with a total of six aces and nine good serves, along with teammates who combined for a 93.3 percent serving success rate to give McIntosh a well-deserved victory.

In their second match of the evening, the Lady Chiefs defeated East Coweta 15-9, 15-2, again in two sets. Ankia DuPreez started off game one with three great blocks. The accurate setting of Allison Cheatham gave Sarah Rosetti the opportunity to celebrate her 17th birthday in style with two aggressive kills in succession. Rosetti continued her celebration to serve out the final five points to close the first game.

Senior Kara Nessing opened game two with strong serves to jump out to a 5-0 lead. Senior Staci Stoller picked up where Nessing left off and scored the next three points. Solid team play by seniors Kathryn Murphy and Kristi Oates and coaching by Taasha Moore led the Lady Chiefs to their second victory of the evening.
