Sandy Creek H.S. needs auditorium My name is Jennifer Merrill, and I am in the ninth grade at Sandy Creek High School. I am writing concerning an editorial you wrote for The Citizen about the need for an all-purpose auditorium in Fayette County. I very much agree with you on this point. However, there is another place in this county in need of an auditorium: Sandy Creek. This is the tenth year that the school has been operating, and we still remain the only high school in Fayette County without an auditorium of our own. Fayette County High, Starr's Mill and McIntosh all have a place to showcase their fine arts performances, while year after year Sandy Creek has been forced to perform either in the cafeteria or in some other location. And performing in such locations is no easy task. It takes hours to clear the cafeteria of tables and chairs, and make it able to accommodate an audience. Then, when the production is finished, the task of taking all of the stage down and making it look like a cafeteria still remains. And as for the performers, our stage is 10 years old, and moves under your feet, making it very difficult to sing and dance in a live-action production. Also, in years past, the performers have had to perform with lunch food remains underneath and about the stage. If we had an auditorium with about 600 seats, it would provide a much more efficient place to showcase our talent and hard work. Our next performance will be Sept. 28 at Flat Creek Baptist Church at 7 p.m. I invite you to come to see just how hard we work, and how desperately we need a place to do our shows.
