Arts need some help to find a good home

'Michael Boylan's Sept. 13 column, "All the world's a stage, so where is ours?", is timely and an accurate commentary on the current state of the arts in Fayette County.

The Endowment Committee for the Cultural Arts (ECCA) has been looking for a performing arts center location for a number of years. As a major sponsor of Fayette Community Theatre (FTC) as well as other "Partners in the Arts" activities, it has been frustrating in juggling different locations throughout Fayette County to accommodate the numerous productions accomplished by the many dedicated FCT volunteers: the most recent performance, "Guys and Dolls," at Sam's Auditorium.

The rents for these various alternative locations are also quite expensive, tentative and confusing to our patrons, which further compromises the continuity of quality theater in our community.

Members of the ECCA executive board have identified the deserted Westpark Walk movie theater in Peachtree City as an ideal potential location for a performing arts center. Mayor Bob Lenox's office and members of the City Council have been informed of the ECCA's interest.

We would welcome support from the community in this effort. A performing arts center would not only enrich our county, it would also serve as a catalyst in revitalizing Westpark Walk by attracting other business venues that are associated with an upscale cultural environment.
