The Berry-Darlington Invitational Cross Country meet is one of the largest cross country meets in the state.

More than 300 girls ran in the AAAAA girls division and 339 boys from 36 teams in the AAAAA boys division. There were four other classifications running in the meet as well.

Our local teams performed well, though McIntosh's girls were hampered by some freakish injuries.

The McIntosh girls cross country team finished seventh overall, but two of the top runners, Mary Katherine Crofton and Judy Thomasson, couldn't finish and Keri Pendergrass, who is recovering from an injury, was held out an extra week. Brookwood won the AAAAA race with Collins Hill placing second overall.
The top eight finishers for McIntosh were:

Dana Van Winkle - 12th at 20:29;
Elizabeth Gardner - 23rd at 20:54;
Megan Spencer - 47th at 21:34;
Morgan Cunningham - 55th at 21:41;
Tina Paone - 75th at 22:07;
Tabitha Lowey - 94th at 22:40;
Nikki Spencer - 114th at 23:01;
Tori Fratto - 132nd at 23:18.

The McIntosh boys team placed 18th out of 36 teams and ran without Ben Brantley Michael Lee and Michael Bowman. Bowman will be out for several more weeks.
The top eight runners for the boys were:
Randy Hutchison - 65th at 17:49;
Shaun Emery - 67th at 17:50;
Ian Hardy - 122nd at 18:34;
Tony Luciano - 138th at 18:51;
Muhammad Momin - 147th at 18:59;
Clint Adams - 152nd at 19:01;
Charlie Gonzalez - 157th at 19:05;
John Powers - 212th at 19:43.

The girls have already qualified for the state meet, finishing a qualifier with an average time of 21:21. The minimum average must be 21:25. The minimum average qualifying time for the boys is 17:34 and the McIntosh team is not quite there yet. McIntosh travels back to Carrollton this weekend to run in the championship division of the race.

Saturday, the Landmark varsity boys team won the A/AA Division at the Berry/Darlington Invitational Meet by an overwhelming 74-point spread over 24 other teams. Sophomore Blake Fetitta placed first overall with a time of 16:32, junior Clark Rivers was second with a 16:51, junior Eric Sumner came in 10th in 17:36, sophomore Joseph Register was 15th in 18:05 and sophomore Johnathan Best scored their final points in 31st place with a time of 18:44.

Finishing in order for the Landmark boys team were Scott Emery, Dustin McDonald, Jeff Noble, Tim Fritz, Matt Coffey and Alan Gay. These results should rank LCS number one in the A/AA in the state and possibly the top five in the state overall.

The varsity girls team made a good showing, placing 15th in A/AA and fifth in Class A. Finishing in order for LCS were: Melissa Register, 23:03; Courtney Piribek, 24:10; Mary Michael Joiner, 25:36; Sarah King, 27:13; Kate Bailey, 28:24; Meredith Gable, 29:35; Danielle Taussig, 34:07, and Andrea Wooding, 35:21.

This Saturday, the Landmark teams will also run in the Carrollton Invitational.
