Weather cleared
for racing action at Senoia
Tallahassee's Marc Mitchell regained the lead for his seventh win of the
season with 12 laps remaining in last Saturday nights running of the Alan
Vigil Southlake Ford 50 Late Model feature at Senoia Speedway.
Mitchell in the Mitchell Brothers Construction Chevrolet took back the
lead from Budweiser Pole Award winner Scott Griffin on lap 37 after Griffin's
ill handling Ford lost traction as a result of a blown engine by another
driver earlier in the race. "I though Scott had the race won until
he slipped up in the oil dry," said Mitchell. "I saw an opportunity
and took it."
Tyrone's Griffin held on to finish second from his eighth place starting
position after leading 17 laps during the middle of the feature. Once
the battle for the lead had been established all eyes shifted further
back in the field to positions three through seven as a blanket could
cover those runners. Covington's Jr. Hardy finished third edging out Tyrone's
Wayne Hansard at the line with Jackson's BJ Holley in fifth.
Union City's Rod Williford, who is sponsored by Williford Used Auto Parts/Atlanta
Coring/J. Carroll Enterprises, assumed the lead and the win in the Sportsman
division from Jimmy Henderson with 13 of 30 laps left when Henderson's
motor let go ending his night of racing. Finishing second was the current
points leader Andy Cash from Brooks with
Darren Cronan in third. Fourth place went to Tom Smith with Senoia's Mark
Lore in fifth.
Locust Grove's Robbie Gober in his Sports Car Service Ltd./Pro-Blend/Dover
Cylinder Head, Inc. sponsored Chevrolet regained the lead for his sixth
win of the season in the street stocks division with 15-laps remaining
when leader Mark Lore was taken out by second place runner Jason Turner.
Fayetteville's Mike Steffens finished second again with Larry Pierce in
third ahead of Mark Lore and the exciting and entertaining Jason Turner
from Griffin in fifth.
Fayetteville's Darrell Carlson took the lead from second place finisher
Cary Hamilton with nine laps to go in the Mini Stock feature for his sixth
win of the season at Senoia Speedway. Troy French, from Gay, Ga., finished
third from his eighth place starting position. Griffin's Micheal Pryor
had a very impressive run going in the third spot ahead of French until
a slower lapped car forced him to check up giving the position to French.
Turning in his second top five finish in a row was LaGrange's Shawn Morman
in fifth.
Reed Sorenson, who was recently crowned the Pro Points Champion of Legends
Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway, was the winner in Saturday night's
running of the Pro and Semi Pro Masters division at Senoia Speedway. Finishing
second was Lovejoy's
Doug Stevens, who also was the runner up to Sorenson at Charlotte. Newnan's
Oliver Gentry returned to Senoia after an extended absence to finish third
from his pole starting position. Fourth place went to Senoia's points
leader Shane Upchurch followed by Marc Mitchell in fifth.
Senoia's Scott Tinsley, who is currently the points leader in the Chargers
Legends series, won Saturday night for his sixth win of the season. Tinsley,
who is sponsored by Payton Machine Works/Lawson Products, has a secured
foot hold on the 2000 season points championship. Blake Powers in the
007 car was second with Bobby East i third. Rounding out the top five
were Brandon Brilliant and Cindy Anderson.
The Bandeleros made their second appearance Saturday night at Senoia Speedway
with Joey Logano leading from start to finish for his first win at the
famous high-banked 3/8th mile oval track. In second was Rick Godfrey
with Chris Dilback in third ahead of Trent Mayo and Chris Cable who rounded
out the top five.
