The Clayton State College athletic
season has begun and has already seen their soccer and cross country program
make great strides.
The Lakers men's soccer team has a record of 3-0 with recent wins over
the University of Montevallo by a score of 1-0 and Thomas College by a
score of 2-0. It is their best start since 1992 when the program opened
up the season with four straight wins.
The Lady Lakers soccer team lost to the University of Montevallo, 3-0.
Both the mens and womens cross country team finished in the top five at
the Berry College Inivitational. It was the first time for either team
to finish ahead of their rivals at Kennesaw State University. The men,
led by junior Mike O'Donnell, finished fourth. O'Donnell finished in 14th
place with a time of 36:07.2. Junior Joni Guffey led the women, finishing
in fifth place with a time of 24:13.9. The cross country teams head to
Huntsville for a meet on Sept. 9.
