Landmark Christian School boys and girls cross country teams came back with trophies following the Brookwood-Walton Stage Races this past Saturday.

More than 30 class A-AA-AAA teams from around the state competed.

The Landmark boys came in first with a low score of 18 points, which placed them second overall even against class AAAA and AAAAA schools. This early meet consisted of a two-mile run.

"The LCS boys were outstanding in their runs," remarked Coach Bill Thorn. Competing in Saturday's race were Matt Coffey, Alan Gay, Johnathan Best, Dustin McDonald, James Emanuel, Joseph Register, Scott Emery, Tim Fritz, Eric Sumner, Jeff Noble, Blake Fertitta and Clark Rivers.

This year's girls team has only one returning runner from last year, senior Melissa Register. Despite a relatively young and inexperienced team, Thorn said, "What is really remarkable is that in their short time of consistent training, they earned the second place trophy in their class of A-AA-AAA schools."

Competing in the race were freshmen Sarah King, Meredith Gable, Mary Michael Joiner and Kate Bailey; sophomores Jenny Cone and Courtney Piribek, and senior Melissa Register.

This coming weekend both teams will travel to Mobile, Ala. to run in the 2000 Cross Country
Challenge. The boys and girls teams are both coached by Bill Thorn and Gerry Register.
