After taking a breather from a busy summer season, the local theater scene
is heating back up for the fall.
There are a number of productions of classic plays on the way, as well
as classes, auditions and some ground-breaking theater for the area.
Fayette-Coweta Community Theatre Inc. will present a musical version of
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at Sams Auditorium in Fayetteville
Sept. 8-10 and 15-17. The show will be presented at 7 p.m. Fridays, at
3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturdays and at 3 p.m. Sundays. For information, call
770-251-7611 or visit www.geocities.com/stagelove35/family.html.
Newnan Community Theatre will present An Evening of One Acts
Sept. 22, 23, 29 and 30 at 8 p.m. They will also conduct auditions for
Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. There
are many parts available, especially for the talented young actor or actress.
For information, call 770-683-NCTC or visit www.newnantheatre.com.
Southside Theatre Guild will present Twelve Angry Men Sept.
21-23, 28-30 and Oct. 5-7. The play concerns the jury of a murder trial.
A 19-year-old man is accused of stabbing his father and the jury must
decide the boys fate. The show will be presented at 8 p.m. and admission
is $10 for adults and $8 for children. For information, call 770-969-0956
or visit www.stgplays.com.
STG also will present See How they Run, a farce about two
friends mistaken for lovers, in November. Call for audition information.
Offshoot Productions is offering classes at the Community School (Old
Fayette County High School) this fall. The classes include kids
creating characters for children in grades one and two, voice
and movement for young actors for children in grades three-five,
acting in ensemble for grades six-12, and taking stage
for actors 16 and older. Classes are $40 and the two classes for younger
actors are offered Wednesday afternoons Sept. 20 to Oct. 25, while the
other two classes are offered Monday evenings Sept. 25 to Oct. 30. For
information, call 770-460-3990, ext. 135 or 770-631-2362.
The company also will offer murder mysteries with audience participation,
a perfect form of entertainment for fund-raisers, conventions, restaurants,
etc. For information, call Susan Steadman at 770-631-2362 or e-mail to
offshootpr@aol.com.
Fayette Community Theatre Inc. hit a snag with its production of Annie,
scheduled for the fall. Annie is being performed for a week
at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta and the rights cannot be sold to another
production company during or around that time. FCT will present another
play this fall and auditions will be soon.
There will also be fall productions at all of the local high schools,
as they try to make the state drama finals, and a new comedy troop of
high school students is forming as we speak. Fayette County will be full
of theater activities this fall and, hopefully, the seats will be full
as well.
