Rec League
Football still has spots available
Approximately 30 to 40 men and women attended the organizational meeting
for the 2000 Adult Flag Football program Tuesday, Aug. 22.
Interest in this years program appeared high with many teams returning
from last year and first time team representatives for two womens
teams there. This is the first time flag football has been made available
to women and four teams will be needed for league play.
The mens program will again be organized into three levels of play.
Class A will be for better teams, Class B for average teams; and Class
C for those teams not capable of competing at the A and B levels.
The 1999 season had a total of 20 teams participating: six in Class A
and seven each in classes B and C. The Class A was won by Kmart, DC with
a 9-1 record and Title Bound placed second. F.B.R. won the Class B division
with an 11-1 record and First Baptist Church of Peachtree City placed
second. First Union Bank won the C division with an 11-1 record, while
Flat Creek and Hoshizaki tied for second place with identical 8-4 records.
In an attempt to make the league more competitive and to prevent any one
team from dominating play, the Recreation Department has a policy of moving
the teams that finish first and second up a division. In turn the two
teams with the worst records in A and B drop to a lower division.
At the end of the season, normally October or November, an All Classification
single elimination tournament is held the first two weeks of December
for those teams wanting additional competition. In last years tournament,
Kmart, DC went undefeated beating Southern crescent in the finals and
Cooper Lighting defeated First Union Bank in the consolation game.
Registration is still open for teams desiring to play in this years
program; however, the deadline for turning in registration forms is Tuesday,
Sept. 5. This can be done at the recreation administration office at 191
McIntosh Trail or at the Kedron Field House and Aquatics Center at 202
Kedron Dr.
Once registration has been completed, teams will be organized into leagues
and individual league entry fees determined and announced. Teams will
then have two weeks to submit their entry fees with that deadline set
for Tuesday, Sept. 19. League play is scheduled to start Sunday, Oct.
1 at 1:30 p.m. at Riley Field on Wisdom Road.
