Regular season of football begins this Friday night

AAAAA games

Fayette County Tigers (0-0) at McIntosh Chiefs (0-0)
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Outlook: The Tigers return some key starters, including quarterback Nathaniel Enloe, who led the region in passing last year, and wide receiver T.J. Brandenburg, who is capable of making big plays. The Chiefs also return their quarterback, Luke Wiggs and have seen some good play in practice from running backs Jim O’Shea, Rusty Stewart and Chris Cedars. O’Shea and Cedars will also see time as linebackers and Stewart has played well at cornerback. The Tigers may be bigger, but this match is always exciting and both teams will play with great energy.

Starr’s Mill Panthers (0-0) at Henry County Warhawks (0-0)
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Outlook: The Starr’s Mill Panthers made the playoffs last year, while Henry County lost its first nine games in a row. But that was last year. This year, the Panthers return three starters on offense and eight starters on defense. Reuben Houston and quarterback Brad McClaren look to keep the offense potent, while the defense, featuring Matt Fuhrmann, Tony Tofanelli and Andrew Bashakus, looks to step up and keep opponents off the score board. The Warhawks have some talent in running back Rodney Brown and linebacker Dayo Scott, but may not be deep enough to stay in this one.

AAAA game

Number 1 Shaw Raiders (0-0) at Number 6 Sandy Creek Patriots (0-0)
Kickoff: 7 p.m. on Media One Channel 33.
Outlook: The Patriots are coming off of a playoff season under Coach Rodney Walker. Walker now enters his second year at Sandy Creek with a senior-laden and veteran team. There are 17 starters on the team this year and 20 members of the squad are seniors. Shaw, also a playoff team last year, is going to be a tough opponent, but look for the Patriots to play them tough. Sandy Creek has an explosive offense, with Andre Green at quarterback and J.R. Lemon at running back, and a defense that hits hard and forces mistakes. This could be a big season for the Creek and it starts with this game.

AA game

Number 10 Northgate Vikings (0-0) vs. Macon County Bulldogs (0-0)
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Outlook: The Vikings return nearly everybody from last year’s team, which made the playoffs. Their offense has several weapons, including quarterback Mitch Stewart and wide receiver Dominique Partridge. Most of the starting defense has returned as well and this team wants to return to the playoffs. Macon County went 3-7 last year in 4-AA, but the region was a difficult one and this is a different team. Look for Northgate to strike early and test out its offense.

A game

Landmark Christian War Eagles (0-0) at Wesleyan Wolves (0-0)
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Outlook: Landmark has a new coach, a new offense and a new attitude. The team has had a good fall and has five starters returning. They have never faced Wesleyan before, but by that token, Wesleyan has never seen Landmark either. Halfbacks Chris Rentz and Sean Hill, guards Ray Ross and Ben King and tackle Stephen Pass look to lead the team to a winning season. To do that, the War Eagles must stay injury-free, as they are solid but not deep.
