Peachtree City's theatre closes its doors

Moviegoers in Peachtree City will now have to drive to enjoy the spectacle of the big screen.

Residents noticed this weekend that the Westpark Walk Cinema 3 had closed its doors. The theater is owned by Carmike Cinemas, which recently filed for bankruptcy.

Carmike could not comment on the closure and residents are now faced with having to travel to see a movie for the first time in more than a decade.
Another theater could go into the facility, but more and more theater companies are focusing on multiple cinemas with stadium seating to lure residents from the comfort of their homes.

At one point, it was believed a new theater would be located in the Bob Adams’ Lexington Park development on Ga. Highway 54, across from Publix. But developers have recently stated that they are still evaluating the feasibility of a theater since the industry seems in the middle of a shakedown.

The closest theaters to Peachtree City now are in Newnan and Fayetteville.
