Crisis of Assimalation wins battle of the bands

The YMCA Pavilion rocked out recently with Battle of the Bands, sponsored by Jitterbuggers and the Fayette Family YMCA.

More than 400 attended, including band members, parents, fans and staff.
Rising to the top of the heap were Crisis of Assimilation (COA), Parkside View and Sect. COA, formerly Pandora’s Box, premiered at Jitterbuggers in June 1999. They became COA early this year. The group’s latest CD premiers this month. Heavy metal punk, professional stage lighting, and nonstop dancing in the crowd boosted this band to the top. The band is composed of students from Fayette County and Starr’s Mill high schools.

Parkside View marked its 19th group appearance with a blend of crowd-pleasing punk rock. This band, formerly the Delinquents, will debut its second CD this month. Jake and Jeff Turner, students at Starr’s Mill High School, and Casey McBride of Sandy Creek High School are joined by their newest member, Chris Baldwin, in their latest performance.

Sect is made up of five students from East Coweta High School who fired up the crowd with a hard-driving rock sound. Their dynamic intro song “Genesis” brought the crowd to its feet. This is Sect’s second appearance before a local teen audience.

“All 12 bands did an outstanding job and provided the best Battle of the Bands show Fayette and Coweta counties have seen in the last 10 years,” said Richard Thompson, president of Jitterbuggers Teen Club. “These young men and their fans prove that the young people in our area are creative, energetic and dedicated to the art of providing great music and quality entertainment.

“They are showing their peers and other generations that they can rock with the best of them, while being safe and positive-oriented to support the values of their generation,” Thompson added.
