One local woman’s long and rewarding journey is about to come to an end.

Singer/songwriter Ellen Edwards is about to celbrate the release of her full-length CD, “Through The Fields of Home,” with a party at the Red Light Cafe in Atlanta.

If you visit the Peachtree Wyndham Conference Center on the weekends, you may have seen her perform. She sings from 6-10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays for brunch. Her style is most appropriately categorized as adult contemporary with jazz flavors. As Edwards says, “It’s not Britney Spears or Sarah Maclachlan.”

Edwards moved to Georgia from Syracuse, N.Y. in 1985. Since then she has performed professionally in and around Atlanta, singing, playing piano and leading numerous bands. In 1988, she won an award from the Atlanta Songwriters Association for one of her songs. Previous to her work on her new CD, Edwards had written, arranged and produced original songs and music for two guided meditation tapes which received national attention and distribution.
Her dream of her own CD was born from her experience.

The song “I Love You” was written to celebrate the joy she felt about marrying her husband, Bob. “Watching You Grow” was written about their first daughter, Elizabeth. “In the Moments” was inspired by their fraternal twin daughters, Emmalee and Kalli.

“When I first discovered I was having twins, I thought I might as well just hang up my music dreams,” said Edwards. “As the twins started getting a little more independent, I realized that I could have my own dreams as well as being a mom. I really want my daughters to know that I love them so much that I’m not willing to suffer for them. As a woman, a wife and a mother, they can have it all — love and a fulfilling career.”

The CD release party will be at the Red Light Cafe on Amsterdam Avenue in Atlanta. The opening act will perform at 8:30 p.m. and Ellen and Her Fabulous Band will perform at 10 p.m. For information, call 770-719-1246. If you are interested in listening to excerpts or purchasing the CD, “Through The Fields Of Home,” visit www.edwards-music.com. Cost of the CD is $12.95 plus tax and shipping.
