The Fayette County Lady Tiger volleyball team faced Lovejoy and Morrow in its first games of the season.

The starting six against Lovejoy were sophomores Katie Langas and Sandra Finley and seniors Kati Alley, Megan Byrd, Kristin French and Christine Pritchett.

French and Langas gave the team accurate setting and firepower from middle blocker Pritchett and outside hitters Alley and Byrd dominated the offense. The lady Tigers won the first game against Lovejoy 15-3.

The second game was dominated by powerful and strategically placed serves from Crystal Rene deCotret and Ashley Stoll. The team served with 87 percent accuracy. Senior setter Valerie Warr helped establish a stifling offense, while Pritchett owned the net with her long-armed blocks and kills. Fayette County won the game 15-2.

“We converted well between offense and defense,” said head varsity Coach Cheryl Laporte. “The girls were prepared mentally much better than I expected.”

The Lady Tigers then faced Morrow and, though the serving was shaky at the begnning of the match, specialist Jennie Maloney kept the Tigers in the game. Stoll and Alley dominated the second game as Fayette County won the match. The Lady Tigers won the first game 15-6 and won the second game 15-4.

“I don't plan on making any adjustments for our next game,” said Laporte. “I am pretty happy with the team. We will be concentrating on blocking and offense during the next few weeks.”
