Winter could bring wildfires

Every year, Fayette County faces a threat of wildfires during the winter months, which is the seasonal time for wildfires.

Many thoughts about raging wildfires are associated with areas out west or in Florida and that nothing like that could ever happen here in Georgia.

The truth is, given the “right” conditions those fires cannot only occur in Fayette County, but are happening right now and the threat grows more intense everyday Georgia’s drought continues.

Preventative measures can be taken to reduce the devastating losses caused by wildfire. For the homeowner, cleaning off roofs, cleaning out gutters, planting fire resistant plant material and maintaining “green belts,” can protect your home.
