The Fayette County Recreation Department has recently announced registration
dates for its fall programs.
The programs are aimed at offering residents of all ages creative, physical
and educational outlets.
There are several programs for toddlers starting in September, intended
to develop motor skills, sensory skills, social skills and creativity.
The Ooey Gooey Art Train is aimed at children 2-3 years old and is offered
every Thursday in September from 9-10 a.m. Fee is $25.
Awesome Art Attack is aimed at children 4-6 and is offered 10:30-11:30
a.m. Thursdays in September. The class will have a central theme each
week and will involve a variety of arts and crafts activities. The fee
for this class is also $25.
There will also be a monthly class called Tuesday Tots, which will explore
new areas with stories, puppets, magic, creative dramatics and light snacks.
Fee is $7.50 per child and the first meeting will be Sept. 12. Children
2-3 meet 9-10 a.m., while children 4-6 meet 10-11 a.m.
There will also be a Huck Finn Fishing Day for children 3-5. Worms and
a limited number of fishing poles will be provided, along with a hot dog
lunch. The fishing will take place at Shamrock Park Sept. 13 from 10 a.m.
to 12:30 p.m. Fee is $5 per child and parents are required to attend with
their children.

and children can register on the day of the climb.
Archery will be offered Thursdays 7-9 p.m. at the Kiwanis Center. Call
David Aven at 770-460-0513.
Fayette County students will have a student holiday Oct. 20, and the Fayette
County Recreation Department will offer Recreation Recess. Children will
create their own scarecrows, create puppets, make seasonal decorations
and listen to tales from the American frontier from a cowboy.
The day begins at 8 a.m. and lasts until 3 p.m. and is open to children
7-11. The class will be offered at the Kiwanis Center at a cost of $35
and a sack lunch. Registration deadline is Oct. 13.
There will also be some programs aimed at teenagers. The Teen Committee
will make decisions on upcoming programs and activities. There is no cost
and the group will meet Oct. 19, Nov. 21 and Dec. 27 from 5-6 p.m. at
the Kiwanis Recreation Center.
The Essence of You is a class aimed at girls 13-17 and will provide girls
an opportunity to try out the latest beauty tips. The Essence of You will

Adults wont be left out of the fun. There will be a field trip to

will last from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and registration begins Sept. 5.
A Stir Crazy Competition will be at the Kiwanis Center Sept. 15. The competition
involves teams receiving ingredients but no instructions and having to
create an appetizer, an entree and dessert. The competition lasts 10 a.m.
to 1 p.m. and will cost $10.
Several classes also will be offered for adults. AARP 55 Alive is a way
for motorists 50 and over to have their insurance lowered. The class will
be offered Wednesdays Oct. 4 and Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Another
class entitled Empowered Parents will help parents detect warning signs
of teenage drug use, gang activity or sexual involvement. The class will

A rummage sale for recreation will be at The Kiwanis Center Saturday,
Oct. 21. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be a way for area residents
to sell off their unwanted material possessions without any of the hassle
of having yard sales. The Recreation Department will advertise for you,
provide your space at the event and arrange for a local charity to pick
up any items that you have left. The cost of a 16x16 space is $15.
Last, but not certainly not least, will be an event for residents 18 and
up, based on the hit television series Survivor. It will feature
a variety of contests guaranteed to present participants with a challenge.
The cost of the all-day event is $25 and includes a t-shirt. Survivor
will be Oct. 28 at McCurry park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There are more programs and clubs available. The Fayette County Recreation
Department also is always on the lookout for new classes and clubs to
form. If you would like to form a new club or teach a class, phone the
Fayette County Recreation Department at 770-461-9714.
