One of the most important lessons a child can learn is that he or she is just as special as everyone else.

That is the lesson that A Company of Friends Educational Touring Productions, the touring company for Fayette-Coweta Family Theatre Inc., wants to teach children in the area with their production of “A Little Bit of Magic.”

“A Little Bit of Magic” is a musical that focuses on Do-Nothing Dale, a wizard who gets picked upon quite a bit. Do-Nothing Dale learns that all people have individual talents that make them special as she travels to Music-land, Laughter-Land and the Mysterious Planet of Flowers.

The musical, aimed at children 2-8 years old, features six upbeat musical numbers and a lot of audience participation. The production has been presented at schools all over the state by the adult troupe. The play, which runs approximately 45 minutes, was written by Gail Goldena and the music and lyrics were written by her husband, Grant Golden.

The cast is made up of four actors with extensive backgrounds in music, directing , writing, technical work and performance. Tammy Barton, the former artistic director of Fayette Community Theatre Inc. and the current artistic director of Fayette-Coweta Family Theatre Inc., will play Do-Nothing Dale; Joey Sommers, a former McIntosh student, will play Mervin the Magnificent, Coco the Clown and the Weatherman; Alwyn Mindoro plays William Wizard, King Eddie Melody and Depressed Daisy, and Gayann Truelove plays the narrator and Perky Queen Patricia. Tammy Bingham is the pianist for the production.

A Company of Friends is a nonprofit group that performs educational productions for children. Members believe that allowing children to experience the magic of live theater enriches and entertains, while it teaches valuable life lessons.
Performances are scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m. at Sams Auditorium in Fayetteville Saturday, Aug. 19 and Sunday, Aug. 20. Tickets are $4 each and can be pre-purchased at the Peachtree City and Fayetteville libraries. Or phone 770-251-7611 for reservations, or visiting the web site at www.geocities.com/stagelove35/family.html.

Because of the interactive nature of the show, space is limited to 100 at each performance. Doors will open 15 minute prior to show time.
