Opening Today

Autumn in New York — Richard Gere (well over 50) starts to date Winona Ryder (not close to 50) in this drama baout a terminally ill girl and the man she falls in love with. Bring a hanky, cause this one is going to have a sad ending. Rated PG-13.

The Replacements— No, this is not a biopic about Minnesota's greatest band. This film is about the scab players who played football during an NFL strike. Keanu Reeves stars, but there is probably no slow motion Kung Fu. Rated R.

Now Playing

Big Momma's House — Martin Lawrence looks to solidify his box office power with this comedy about a policeman who goes undercover to protect a damsel in distress. Rated PG-13.

Chicken Run — The creators of Wallace and Gromitt bring their whimsical vision of chickens flying the coop to the screen. Mel Gibson stars as an American rooster that helps the chickens avoid being made into pie. This looks amazing. Rated G.

Coyote Ugly — If you oppose Hooters, you should oppose this film about a bar staffed by supermodel-esque babes. If this has a multi-level plot and multi-dimensional characters, I'll be very surprised. Rated PG-13.

Hollow Man — Kevin Bacon stars as a man who becomes invisible before becoming a raging psycho. This was a very interesting fil;m with incredible special effects. Classic Paul verhoeven, I reccommend it. Rated R.

Loser — Jason Biggs (American Pie) and Mena Suvari (American Beauty) play American kids at a college in America (New York City). This was directed by Amy Heckerling, who gave the world Fast Times at Ridgemint High and Clueless. I say give it a chance. Rated PG-13.

Me, Myself and Irene — This movie is hysterically funny. The audience laughed like little girls. And though Jim Carrey is the star, and he is terrific, this is not, repeat, NOT, for children. Rated R.

Nutty Professor II: The Klumps — This movie was horrible. It lacked everything good from the first movie and filled it with humor that was too lowbrow for lowbrow humor. Rated PG-13.

Pokemon the Movie 2000 — Since bashing Pokemon last fall, I have become a moderate fan of the televison program. However, the last movie was horrible. This will have to be much better to jumpstart the show's waning popularity and get me in the theater. Rated G.

Scary Movie — The long-awaited spoof of the recent teen horror flicks finally hits the screen. Brought to by the Wayans Brothers, if you liked “I'm Gonna Git You Sucka” and “Don't Be A Menace”, this film is right up your alley. Please don't allow young children to see it, There are a lot of adult themes. Rated R.

Space Cowboys — A bunch of old (and incredible actors) play old astronauts that are sent up to space for a rescue mission. We love outer space and we love Clint Eastwood. This film should be very well-made. Rated PG-13.

The Kid — Bruce Willis stars in this Disney movie about a middle aged man meeting himself as a little boy. This movie should be filled with warmth Rated PG.

The Patriot — Mel Gibson defends his family and his country in the Revolutionary War. The Patriot is brought to you by the makers of another huge 4th of July movie, called...Independence Day. Rated R.

The Perfect Storm — Based on Sebastian Junger's true-life tale of two ships stuck out in the worst storm in history. George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg star in this action movie from Wolfgang Petersen. Rated PG-13.

Thomas and the Magic Railroad — A young girl goes to a magical world on the way to her grandfather's house. Based onthe hit children's series, this film stars Alec Baldwin and Peter Fonda. Rated G.

What Lies Beneath — Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer star in this thriller form Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump). Let's face it, Ford needs a solid hit again and Pfeiffer could use one too. I would hate to have the taste of Dangerous Minds and Random Hearts in my mouth for too much longer. Besides, the previews look really good. Rated R.

X-Men — Mutants are everywhere and they can kick evil's butt. All of your favorite X-Men are here: Wolverine, Magneto, Cyclops, Storm and Professor X. This movie, directed by Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects, Apt Pupil) looks really exciting. Check it out. Rated PG-13.

Also Playing

Erin Brockovich — Julia Roberts stars in this film based on a true story. I heard it was pretty good and that Roberts was as pretty as ever. Rated R.

Final Destination — A young man convinces his friends not to fly a plane after he gets a bad feeling about the flight. The flight crashes and they were supposed to be on it, now Death is stalking them. Rated R.

Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas — The world didn't really want another Flintstones movie and I didn't really want to write anything about it. I guess at $1 a pop, it might be worth 90 minutes in an artically air conditioned environment. Rated PG.

Love and Basketball — Omar Epps stars in this film about a boy and girl who play basketball and fall in love. Supposedly, it is a very good film. Rated PG-13.

My Dog Skip — Frankie Muniz (Malcom in the Middle) stars as a boy who gets a dog.Hailed by critics as a truly great family film, check out My Dog Skip for a buck. Rated PG.

Road Trip— A very funny film in the same vein as “There's Something About Mary” and “American Pie.” The only problem is that there is not enough Tom Green. Note: The campus of the University of Georgia poses as the college in the film. Rated R.

Shanghai Noon — Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson star in this film about an eastern warrior fighting alongside an outlaw in the wild, wild west. Rated PG-13.

Titan A.E. — Matt Damon, Drew Barrymore and Janeane garofalo end their voices to this animated tale about Earth in the future. Rated PG.

The Tigger Movie — Tigger and all of his friends from the Hundred Acre Forest are back in this tale about friendship and family. Rated G.

U-571 — An American submarine crew in WWII finds a German submarine and must battle to stay alive. Matthew McConaughey and Harvey Keitel star. Rated PG-13.

Where The Heart Is — Natalie Portman's character has a baby in a Wal-Mart and the town either loves her or hates her. Ashley Judd also stars. rated PG-13.
