Lady Cougar plays soccer with other All Stars in Hawaii

Amanda Morton, a member of the Newnan High School Lady Cougar soccer team recently went on her trip to Hawaii as part of the TourneySportUSA high school all star soccer tournament.

This tournament, held from July 16-25, featured 125 of the top high school junior soccer players from across the United States split into seven teams for a round robin first round and then a medal round. Amanda participated on a team with other players from around the Southeast while competing against teams group by North, Southwest, Pacific Coast, Northeast, East Coast, and Hawaii.

FC Southeast finished the round robin round with a 4-2-0 record (W-L-T) yet both "losses" came in penalty kicks after tie games. Their record placed them fourth heading into the medal round where Morton's team defeated FC Northeast 2-1. Another 2-1 win over FC North placed FC Southeast into the final against FC Pacific Coast. Despite a tense match and overtime, neither team could find the winning goal and shared the gold medal after a 0-0 tie in the championship.

Morton played in all nine games, scored one goal and tallied one assist while playing mostly center midfield. She began her trip up top as a forward but was moved to the midfield after an injury to a teammate. The week was not limited to soccer. Morton and her teammates found the time to site see, shop, and hit the beaches. Her parents were also able to attend the event. She was one of only two players from the state of Georgia to participate, the only player from the Atlanta area. Congratulations to Newnan High's Lady Cougar captain on a great summer trip.
